Cracking interviews at top product-based companies is often seen as a matter of mastering technical answers. In reality, success depends on much more than just knowledge.
Abhishek Kumar’s journey highlights how identifying and fixing the right gap can completely transform interview outcomes. A Computer Science graduate from a tier-2 college had stability at his company but he wanted better growth opportunities as a software engineer.
With this goal, he began preparing seriously for interviews.
Like most candidates, Abhishek focused heavily on:
→ Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA)
→ Regular problem-solving practice
→ Concept revision
Despite consistent effort, his interview results were not improving. He found himself struggling to clear rounds, even when he knew the solutions.
After multiple attempts, he identified the real issue: it wasn’t a lack of knowledge, but a communication gap.
To fix this, Abhishek changed his preparation strategy. Instead of just solving problems, he started practicing how to explain solutions step-by-step and structure his answers logically.
During this phase, he joined Bosscoder Academy, where he gained:
→ A structured roadmap for software engineer interview preparation
→ Confidence in communication with the help of multiple mock interviews
→ Consistent feedback on his performance
→ 1:1 Mentorship helped him refine how he approached and articulated problems
This helped him align his preparation with real-world interview scenarios.
At the same time, Abhishek continued strengthening his core technical skills, especially in areas like Trees and Graphs. This combination of strong fundamentals and improved communication significantly boosted his performance.
With consistent effort and the right guidance, he began clearing interview rounds and ultimately secured an SDE 3 role at Oracle.
Abhishek’s journey highlights an important lesson: success in interviews is not just about solving problems, but about communicating your thinking clearly. Once you identify your gaps and work on them strategically, achieving your goals becomes far more attainable.
