Joining college is a major event in everyone's life.
New campus. New mates. New professors. New experiences.
However, would it be possible for anyone to have a taste of the tech industry even during his/her first week at college?
This was the concept behind Orientation Week at Bosscoder School of Technology (BST).
Rather than sticking to conventional orientation programs, Bosscoder School of Technology offered its freshmen a unique four day orientation program which had industry experts, faculty, mentors, communication session , games, music, comedy, and a new student community all under one roof.
For the first batch of students, this was not just the beginning of college, but a beginning of their journey for four years ahead at BST.
BST Orientation Week
BST Orientation Week has been specially crafted for new students to get familiar with college life, the process of studying there, to meet their faculty and mentors, and their batchmates.
At BST, the orientation week also gave an insight into the technology industry right at the very start itself.
In just four days, students get to have:
- Sessions on the industry by experienced technology leaders
- Interactions with faculty and mentors
- Communications and professional development sessions
- Games and group activities
- Entertainment and comedy
- Music and celebration at the college
- Opportunities to meet and connect with their new community
The goal is simple - ensure that students begin their college journey with curiosity and confidence.
Day 1: A Journey Begins
The first day of BST Orientation Week commenced with a ceremony of Pooja, beginning the journey of students for the next four years.
This special event also saw the arrival of Padma Shri awardee Dr. H.R. Nagendra, Chancellor of S-VYASA, on campus. He congratulated BST Founders, Manish Garg and Rajat Garg, and joined hands with the students who had just begun their journey.
Vision and the learning environment at BST were introduced to the students.
However, this was not the only thing that happened during the first day of orientation.
However, this was not the only thing that happened during the first day of orientation.
Challenges, games, and goodies helped the students make small talks with each other and know more about their peers.
For most students, these were some of their first instances of interacting with the people who were going to be part of their journey for the next four years.
And before that, students have to create a community out of themselves.
Day 2: Learning from the Technology Industry
The second day provided students with closer access to the industry they were about to join.
Rather than wait till the final year to gain experience in industry, BST exposed the students to experienced technology professionals right in the very first year of college.
Engineering Leader at Google, Sunil Bhatia, spoke to the students about engineering principles, career progression, and the right mindset required to succeed in technology careers.
Dr. Aloknath De, Former CTO of Samsung R&D Institute India, offered his experience of leading technology teams and the significance of adaptability in such a dynamic field.
It was simple and clear:
Technology changes fast and so do the engineers need to learn and adapt.
Once the sessions by industry experts were done, it was time for some fun.
This included a number of events like push-up competitions, arm wrestling, quizzes, and campus games. It provided the new batch with more opportunities to compete, socialize and make memories of their first college experience.
Day 3: Beyond Technical Skills
To be a great engineer is not all about writing code.
Yes, technical skill is important but besides that, engineers have to know how to convey messages effectively, work together and have confidence working in teams.
On day three, the Bosscoder School of Technology orientation week concentrated on these skills.
Students met their faculty members, explored their academic sections, and were introduced to their mentors and support teams.
Also, the learners had a communication lecture by Vivek Shah, Vice President at JioHotstar, who taught them the importance of communication skills together with technical skills.
And then there was entertainment for the students!
Classroom transformed into a comedy show as Ashish Solanki came in with his clean comedy show.
The point is that college life is not just about classes and assignments. It is also about the people you come across and the experiences you have along the way.
Day 4: Finding Your Community
This was all about meeting the people who will support the students during their stay in BST.
Students met with the following groups of people:
- Faculty members
- Mentors
- Success managers
- BST Insider members
All these teams will be playing an important role in the future journey of the students during their college time for any academic, mentor, career, or college assistance.
The day ended with a celebration event.
A Delhi-based band Mirage with the members Anvay and Manish put up a live performance on the campus.
The celebrations went on with the performance of Revoic in the form of a DJ.
Thus, at the end of the day, the new batch completed four full days of learning, competing, discussing, and celebrating.
The students were not just students anymore. They became a part of a community.
What made BST Orientation Week different?
A traditional college orientation program, there is always one question:
What will you study?
But, BST Orientation Week tried to answer a couple more questions:
- Who will teach you?
- Who will you learn with?
- What are the requirements of the tech industry?
- How do you grow yourself besides the technical knowledge?
- Who can guide you during your college journey?
- What can your college experience look like?
That was the reason why this week included industry exposure, academic orientation, mentorship, communication, games, entertainment, and networking opportunities.
The idea was not only to introduce students to their college.
The idea was to provide them with the first taste of the environment they would spend the next four years studying in.

Why Industry Exposure Matters From Day 1
Traditionally, students are made to study the technology industry late in college when they are preparing for internships and placements.
BST, on the other hand, does things differently, as it exposes students to industry insights right from the beginning of their journey.
Hearing directly from experienced technology professionals can help students understand that building a career in technology is a continuous process and requires:
- Strong technical fundamentals
- Continuous learning
- Adaptability
- Communication
- Problem-solving skills
- Collaboration
- Practical experience
Early exposure may make it easier for students to get used to these requirements before their final year in college.
The First Week Was Only the Beginning
Four days can go fast.
However, the individuals you meet, the interactions you engage in, and the experiences you gain may well turn out to be some of the best college memories.
To the first batch of Bosscoder School of Technology students, Orientation Week provided them a peek into what their college life could turn out to be:
- Learn from professionals.
- Lay a solid technical foundation.
- Find mentors.
- Make new friends.
- Enhance your communication skills and build your self-confidence.
- Find your strengths.
- And enjoy the journey while at it.
The orientation week may be over but the college life had just begun.
